The dense urban area of Aussersihl is primarily defined by the closed block constructions of the 19th century. The proposed structure mimics the characteristics of surrounding buildings of the early 1900s, including a basement level, an accentuated mezzanine with large openings, a intermediate floors, and an attic. Nevertheless, these historical references have been modified into a more precise architectural language.

The discrete recessions from the ground floor to the fourth-floor give the building an elegant and polished form. At the same time, the two uppermost levels condense into a raised attic which seamlessly parallels the crossroads of the streets below. The structure features uniform and sheltered setbacks on the courtyard side. The structure is made of massive prefabricated concrete elements which are joined together to elicit a feeling of tectonics as well as depth. The arcades and public spaces are directly linked to the Salvation Army corps as well as a residential area. A large foyer provides a convenient access to the Salvation Army Corps and the two spaces are clearly demarcated by an intersecting staircase designed in the form of a double helix.
